Anyways.....the Prom was a completely new experience for me because I had never really done a party before, I have done portraits and other things of that sort but nothing like this. It was also the first time I have ever used a speedlight, and I didn't realize how hard it was to use one!
During the past few weeks I've been mentored by Todd Kerr, the main photographer for the Piedmont Post. He has taught me so much about doing events and parties. I already know how to do sports well enough. I needed to get a jump start on the parties part. His style of doing things makes so much sense and works incredibly well. I remember many things that he told me but a couple stood out. Here are a couple of the ones that stood out...."My goal is to get everybody in this whole building tonight, and if i don't get everybody then I failed", "Being a storyteller you have to make sure to get every possible moment in the night whether its serving food or just standing around bull shitting", "You have the groups of kids,...losers, jocks, cool kids....and so on".
Those quotes made an impact on the photos I took and will ever take. They were incredibly helpful and made so much sense. All of my credit goes to him, he has helped me so much over the last couple of months.
Here are the best photos I got, i screwed up the order so it starts at the end of the night and goes to the beginning.
Any comments or suggestions will help a ton, considering this was the first time I used a speedlight. More are to come soon!
